Your Work is in the Numbers: James Himm Mitchell
Hello and welcome to the first blog post of “the Planning Stage” for 2012! I’m so glad you’ve given me the pleasure of your presence and your time.
I wanted to incorporate something new into this blog, and what better time than the beginning of a new year, when we realize a time that is ripe with potential and possibilities?
In my other blog “life of HIMM,” which chronicles my work and life with dreams, Tarot, and Reiki, I have two on-going columns: the HIMM Dream Journal, which features dreams readers submit for interpretation, and the HIMM Tarot Reader, which showcases how I work with the Tarot.
In the HIMM Tarot Reader, I began a new feature, the Card of the Week, in which I draw a card at the beginning of the week, and offer interpretations, insights, and affirmations associated with the card. And while this new feature has been established only a couple of weeks now, it is generating a great deal of interest.
I wanted to do the same in this blog. I then had the idea for a column that showcases my work as a Certified Professional Career Intuitive Coach. Since establishing my coaching and consulting practice, I have attracted a number of clients who have been wanting to know what their purpose is, but also how the concept of work is connected to it.
This need is something I can all too easily relate to. I had this Big Question in my mind when I was 30, and again ten years later, when I turned 40. I had this question answered through some synchronistic events that have brought me to this point.
So, to help you better understand, we have to go back a couple of years, to August 2009. I was attending college for my BA in Psychology. I was being trained in Reiki, becoming a Level 3 Practitioner (what is considered a Reiki Master). My intuitive consulting practice at the time, Dreams and Visions, was doing well.
I had picked up a book, “I See Your Dream Job,” during one of my travels to my local bookstores (I absolutely LOVE books and reading!). It’s written by Sue Frederick, a career intuitive. The subtitle of the book is “A Career Intuitive Shows You How to Discover What You Were Put on Earth to Do.” With a claim like that, I was hooked; the book practically leaped off the shelf and into my hands.
I was working in the retail industry at the time, as I was getting my consultancy business off the ground. I had a meeting I had to attend one morning in another facility than the one I worked in, so I thought I’d bring the book with me to read in the car, since I would leave early from home to avoid morning rush-hour traffic. It was while reading this book that my life made sense.
Sue’s approach is to take the numbers in your date of birth and incorporate your Sun Sign to determine your birth path, and the work that is associated with that. When I read mine, it was uncanny how my life at the time totally reflected the aspects of my birth path. I no longer have to ask the question about purpose and my work because I am living it.
So, I wanted to let Sue know what an inspiration the book was to me, and I e-mailed her. What I wasn’t expecting was that she not only replied, but extended an invitation to train with her and become certified as an intuitive coach using her method. I immediately said yes, knowing this was an opportunity from the Universe. This training took place last year.
Which now brings us back to this present moment. In this column, Your Work is in the Numbers, I will be featuring people from various walks of life, showing you what their great life’s work is and how various elements have helped to shape that. And to start with, I will be using myself, since I’ve given you some of my background already.
Using the numbers of my date of birth to calculate my path, my path is a 6. As a person with a 6 path, I have a global consciousness, drawn to work for justice and social order; with this in mind, I could work as an educator, politician, therapist, doctor, intuitive counselor, or judge. The medical profession, social work, politics, and education would all be good fits. I could also be drawn to the arts. One thing I have to be wary with is obsessing on the needs of others and ignoring my own, which can lead to frustration and lack of fulfillment.
Now remember, at the time this information first came to me, I was working as an intuitive counselor (Tarot readers are said to be on the 6 path).
Something else regarding my path: there are numbers that appear during the calculations that are called Master Numbers. These numbers are of a special significance. They can either be readily apparent, or a hidden aspect of the birth path.
I have one of the Master Numbers as my path, and it is a hidden aspect. The number is 33, so when expressing my path to others, it is a 33/6. As a 33, I could work as a visionary artist, clairvoyant, or master healer.
Again, this is validation of my work as an intuitive (clairvoyant) and with becoming a Reiki Master (master healer). The hidden aspect (which means I had to perform different methods of calculation to find the Master Number) is an indication of trying to fit in with the world at large, because I knew the world wouldn’t “get me” (which I did live out) if these aspect were expressed earlier in life.
Flavoring my path with my Sun Sign, which is Pisces, now makes me a Pisces 33/6. As a Piscean, my gifts include a profound intuition and an innate spiritual wisdom. As a Pisces 33/6, I am being asked to step up to my great work, which involves being a powerful healer and using my clairvoyance to help others. Until I would be ready to do that, I would find comfort in the arts. As a start in the right direction, I should get a degree in education or psychology.
Remember the time frame when I first got ahold of this book: it was 2009, and I was enrolled in undergrad school for psychology (at this time, I am working on earning my MA in Psychology).
And, before I got into all of this, I wanted to first be a cartoonist (work in the arts). I wanted to be a comic book artist. I wanted to break in and work for Marvel and DC, but I wound up starting up my own publishing company in the small press/underground industry.
The last thing I want to share about my birth path and the great work that is tied to it involves the current year. Each year, we move through what are called personal years. The personal year is calculated with your birthdate and the current calendar year. My personal year for 2012 is 6, the same as my birth path. When the personal year is the same as the birth path, it is known as a success year. Success years are said to be major and powerful years for the individual.
So it will be interesting to see what 2012 holds for me and my career as an intuitive coach and life lesson consultant.
This is just the tip of the iceberg of the coaching process, when I look at purpose and work intuitively. I share my story, albeit briefly, just to give everyone an idea of how the process starts.
If you have enjoyed looking at work in this way, please continue to come back as I will share insights looking at the paths of others in the future.
If you would like to submit your birthdate information to be an object lesson for others in this column, you can send that info to me at james@jameshimm.com, with Your Work is in the Numbers in the subject line.

February 25, 2012 at 7:28 pmYou actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be actually something that I think I would never understand. It seems too complicated and very broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!

February 26, 2012 at 1:40 amDear Ali,
Working with the numbers in your date of birth does time time and study, but can be accomplished…and understood. The same can be said for combining the elements of Sun Signs. It’s all just like anything else in life: practice makes perfect; the more one does anything, the easier it becomes.
I’m glad that you liked how the material was presented. I’m certain that you’ll get the hang of the concept of how working with the numbers plays such a role in determining one’s great work in future posts.
Thanks for your response!
