Easter and the Coaching Connection
On this Easter Sunday, I was in church listening to the talk my minister was giving regarding the holiday. As I listened with rapt attention, I realized there is a connection between Easter and coaching.
I attend a Unity church. Unity, for those not familiar, is a Metaphysical, or New Thought, Christian church. New Thought is a spiritual movement that began at the turn of the 20th century, based on metaphysics. The metaphysical is going beyond the physical, the literal (the word “meta” means beyond).
I have been a student of the metaphysical for over a decade now, having been awarded a Doctor of Metaphysics (MsD) from the church that ordained me as a minister, Universal Life Church. Christian metaphysics revolves around the concept that our thoughts create our experiences.
A New Way of Thinking about Easter
This concept applies to Easter. Easter, in my opinion, is about the resurrecting power of the Christ within each and every one of us. This is the power that allows us to overcome physical limitations and experiences, to overcome limited thinking, to be reborn, adopt a new and more positive way of life, and to raise our consciousness.
My minister was talking about the idea of having a resurrection consciousness or a crucifixion consciousness, and that we have the freedom to choose one to live by.
Talking about the crucifixion brought a memory back to me, in which I had given my own talk in a church, prior to my time in Unity. In that talk, I shared that the crucifixion symbolizes the death of an old way of being, of doing, of having in life.
With that, I believe that in order for there to be a resurrection in our lives, we must first have the crucifixion.
There is a spiritual significance to this process of crucifixion and resurrection. Jesus, who I refer to as my Elder Brother and Way-Shower (“Jesus said to him, I am the Way and the Truth and the Life…” John 14:6, Amplified translation), had to be crucified in order to achieve/accomplish His destiny (“…He said, It is finished!” John 19:30, Amplified translation).
I believe we get to a place where we say, “Enough! I’m done with this way of living!” This allows us to move into what we are meant to be doing, with how we are meant to be living. Following the example of this Master Life Coach, I offer this question, for your consideration: In what ways do you need to “die” in order for your destiny, your purpose, your life’s mission to be fulfilled?
The challenges we face in life are our opportunities for growth. The growth comes from how we overcome them; that becomes our process, that gets us to the other side, that makes us more aware, more evolved. It also moves us that much closer to our purpose, the work we have come to the planet to do.
How Coaching Connects to the Concept of Easter
Coaching is a similar process. Coaching assists us in working through our challenges, the things that create limitation in our lives, and keep us from moving forward in creating and living our best life.
Coaching takes us from where we are to where we want to be, but only when we get to the point that the way we have been approaching life has got to stop, has got to change, has to “die.” This allows us to embrace the coaching process, knowing that a new way of life will be the end result, that we will be moving into a life that is filled with purpose and meaning, and allows us to fulfill our Divine Mission.
In closing, I invite you to consider the following coaching questions, on this day of resurrection:
- What is it that you want to become, to do, and to possess in life?
- What are you willing to sacrifice, to end, to let go of, in order for that to take place?
These questions, by the way, are not just questions you can ask yourself today; they can be asked any day, at any time you are ready to make a significant change in your life. And, the metaphysical crucifixion and resurrection can take place any day, at any time, as well. And that is the connection between Easter and coaching.

In return, I would like to share my comment – Personal coaching could also assist prospects turn out to be aware of and overcome inner obstacles that could possibly be keeping them back. The coach serves like a “mirror” that allows prospects to see their own tendencies from a whole new viewpoint. A coach may well aid clientele see counter-productive patterns, language and pursuits that ought to change so as to realize desires. As soon as these counterproductive patterns are identified, coaching can help prospects on the concepts and capabilities necessary to overcome these issues and create more constructive behaviors, attitudes and mindsets.
