Life by the Numbers: Dr. Maya Angelou
Yesterday, I went to my local Unity church. I am very active in the church, so, more often than not, I don’t get to sit in the sanctuary and listen to the minister’s talk. This day, though, it just so “happened” that I had no duties in any other part of the building and was able to sit in the service as a congregant.
As part of my minister’s talk, he presented a video clip of the late Dr. Maya Angelou (who passed away last week) talking with Oprah on “Super Soul Sunday.” Dr. Angelou was discussing how she discovered Unity and became a “Truth student.”
After church, I came home to prepare for a client coming for a Tarot consultation. After the session, I turned on the TV to check out what was airing on OWN (the Oprah Winfrey Network). What was airing? A block of programming that featured Dr. Maya Angelou, Oprah’s way of honoring her presence in the world. At the specific moment I turned on the TV, the very same part of the program I saw earlier in church was, once again, being shown to me.
Knowing what I know, from my own experiences, things like this don’t just “happen,” or are by “chance.” I recalled that last week I wrote a post about the cards that “just happened” to jump out from the deck during my daily read the day Dr. Angelou passed.
The thought came to “work her numbers,” which is the process I use when I work with clients and cracking their “career code.”
Dr. Angelou, being born on April 4, 1928, has a birth path of 1. In her particular case, the 1 highlights having a unique voice, which was reflected in her poetry and other literary efforts. It was through these efforts she would imagine new things and introduce new concepts. Careers that perfectly suit the 1 path include being a speaker and author, and Dr. Angelou performed as both.
The idea of leading others to new ideas (the 1 path is considered the path of the leader) is also reflected in her sun sign, which is Aries. This is a bold sign, and can indicate being at the forefront of all endeavors. This is a sign that suggests one’s great work is about empowerment—and not being overpowering.
Combining these two aspects makes Dr. Angelou an Aries 1. As such, her path was to move forward with her unique visions and ideas, and to follow her authentic voice until others took notice (which she did—and they did). Part of that great work was highlighted as a performer (she was a singer and dancer), and later became the poet and speaker whose wise words have served many of us (myself included). Oprah has often referred to Dr. Angelou as her “greatest teacher,” another career choice the Aries 1 would naturally be well-suited for.
As I did when I wrote my post on the late actor Paul Walker, when he passed away last year in a tragic car accident, I turned my attention to the actual day of her passing, since the Tarot was giving me a “heads up” that morning. In working with the numbers of that day (May 28, 2014), I discovered they reduced to 13. 13, in Tarot, is the number of the Transition card. It is a card of great change, endings, and completions. Taking the 13 and reducing it, it becomes 4, which is the Emperor card. The card is assigned the astrological sign of Aries—which just “happens” to be Dr. Angelou’s sign.
This vibration, the 13/4, is known as the Universal Day number, which is a vibration we all experienced that day. Taking her path and combining it with this Universal Day number, reduces to 5, which was her personal vibration for the day. The 5 is a number associated with change, spontaneity, freedom, and travel. It is the number of the free spirit.
Seeing the 5 brought her book I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings to my mind, and the visual of its book cover design of a bird flying through the sky. Dr. Angelou had sung her song, and was now taking flight and soaring to new heights.
In closing, I quote a Tarot colleague, who had posted these words on her Facebook group page: Travel well, Maya Angelou.
