Dream Decoding: The Girl and Her Mashed Potatoes
Welcome to another edition of my Dream Decoding series!
Before we dive in, I want to thank all my readers for the enthusiastic response you all have been giving me about this column. It is so gratifying that my love and passion for dream decoding is finding an audience.
Having said that, today’s dream entry was submitted to me by a reader of the column.
Let’s examine his dream:

I had a dream the other night and I was hoping you could help me with it. This was the dream:
Dream Title: The Girl and Her Mashed Potatoes
I’m sitting at a dinner table with a little girl and an older woman. The older woman and I have plates that are empty but this little girl, who is possessed, has a plate full of mashed potatoes with pearls and other types of gems in it. She is telling us a whole bunch of stuff and as she does she scoops little portions onto my plate.
It was really a very strange dream. Thank you in advance. 🙂

Decoding The Girl and Her Mashed Potatoes
Dear Dreamer,
Thank you for submitting this interesting dream. This is what your dream is saying to me:
The mashed potatoes would be considered the outstanding symbol in the dream, since everything seems to revolve around them. Anytime food appears in a dream, it can represent “food for thought.” It suggests something you need to consider in waking life.
The potatoes having pearls and gems in them represent something being more valuable than what you might think. Pearls represent “pearls of wisdom,” and gems would be a “gem of an idea.” Jewels can also make the dream more spiritual; it would reflect some aspect of your spiritual life.
The little girl is sharing what she has with you. Since the girl is an aspect of you, it says that you have something of value to share with others. It would be your wisdom (pearls).
You not having anything on your plate could suggest not doing anything about this (you know the expression when we’re really busy working at things we say “my plate is full?”). An empty plate can also suggest having a void in life, a sense of emptiness, a lack of ful-fill-ment (spelling intentional–look at the words: FULL and FILL) in an area of your life.
The older woman in the dream can be symbolic of your mother. Both you and she having empty plates could symbolize a lack of communication or interaction, not having anything to share with one another (symbolically represented by dining, or sharing food). If this is the case, the little girl is you at that age; it would suggest when this inability to communicate with your mother began.
To add to this further, the pearls would indicate the spiritual gift of counseling. This spiritual gift works through our female energy (the girl and the woman in the dream), and is affected by our relationship with our mothers; it is most commonly linked to a feeling of isolation from others, not feeling as though we fit in.
My take on the girl being possessed is that she is acting under the guidance/direction of Spirit. It says that you will share this gift (the little girl represents potential for the future), but as directed/guided by Spirit. Saying things as she shares the food indicates the gift of prophecy and the ability to prohesy (tied to the pearls again), and makes me think of trance channeling. The little portions of the food suggests getting small portions at a time, because that may be all you can handle or take. It means receiving things in small doses. The empty plate, in this sense, means being open and receptive to the information you’re getting. While you may not always understand it, the information will be valuable. And, it will not always be solely for you. Prophetic information will always be of a more universal nature, which means it is for everyone, generally speaking.
Anyway, that’s my take on the dream. Hope it is helpful in some way.
My Closing Thoughts
And there you have it. If you all haven’t been able to tell by now, dreams that indicate spirituality and spiritual gifts and abilities are some of my favorite to work with, such as this one. They’re fun because, most times, people resonate with the gifts indicated, once they are revealed.
At some point, I will compile updates on the interpretations that are highlighted in this forum. I like doing this, much like those shows on television that update people who have had rooms or homes redone, or makeovers, to see if they kept up with it, made some changes, or went back to their old ways. Look for that in the future.
