Today’s Tarot: A State of Indecision

As I sat shuffling the deck for today’s card, I began to think of a recent session with a client.

She was seeking guidance on whether or not a move would be good for her. She told me her reasons for moving, and even that she had two places in mind.

In her reading of ten cards, four of them were cards that suggested a move! I pointed this out to her, as I saw this as being both significant and relevant to her question.

At the end of our session, she said, “I still don’t know whether I should move or not.”

2 of Swords-Original Rider WaiteComing back to the present moment, I pull the card for today: 2 of Swords.

This card is a perfect representation of this client on my mind. The 2 of Swords is known as the “indecision” card. The woman on the card is holding a sword in each of her hands, with her arms crossed over her chest. This symbolizes having at least two options and not being able to decide between them.

The woman wears a blindfold, which can be symbolic of an inability to see something about the situation she is in. It can be like having a “blind spot,” or being in some form of denial, which is an unwillingness to see or face something (because the woman on the card could put down one of the swords and take off the blindfold, but she isn’t/hasn’t).

It was just the case with this client, who received validation of her intention to move in her reading.

I asked her, “If moving would be so great for you, as you ticked off all the reasons why it would, why are you still undecided? What’s really going on?”

Asking this question revealed more about her indecision. “If I move,” she said, “I lose the chance to try and get back together with my ex.”

So, despite all the wonderful reasons for moving, this one reason for not moving seemed to be very compelling—enough to keep her in her state of indecision.

So, for today, consider what you might be undecided on for yourself. Ask yourself why that might be the case. What might you not be willing to see/face/admit about your state of indecision?

And, as our lady friend on the 2 of Swords sits on the bench, waiting—what additional information (Swords being the suit of information) might you need to wait for/on that could help you decide?

And, in some cases, sometimes the best decision in the moment is to not make a decision.
