I was invited to give a talk to a group of Reiki practitioners recently. Since we’re moving closer to the start of a new year (and a new decade!), I thought I would focus my presentation on personal year cycles.

You may be wondering what a personal year cycle is. A personal year cycle (PYC) comes from numerology, the metaphysical science of numbers, which states that all numbers carry within them certain energies and vibrate at different frequencies.

For every year of our lives, we experience life under the influence of a number, ranging from 1-9, as well as 11, 22, and 33. These 9-year cycles assist us in mastering the challenges in life, as well as support us in our personal and spiritual growth and development.

When I started LifePlan, working with the numbers as an intuitive coach was the foundation of my practice; back then, my work focused on helping clients determine their careers based on their individual birth paths.

I thought, since I was sharing this in my speaking engagements, why not share it here with the readers of my blog?

How to Calculate Your Personal Year Cycle

To calculate your current personal year cycle, take your birth month (if it’s a 2-digit number, add the digits together; for example, December would be 12; 1 + 2 = 3) and your birth day (if it’s a 2-digit number, do the same as you would for a 2-digit month) and add them to the coming calendar year (in this case, 2024). For example, my birth month and day are March 7; I would add it in this way:

3 + 7 + 2 + 0 + 2 + 4 = 18

Take the two digit number (unless it is 11, 22, or 33) and add the digits together:

1 + 8 = 9

The goal is to reduce until you have a number between 1 and 9 (unless it is 11, 22, or 33).

In my case, my current personal year cycle is 6.

Now it’s your turn.

Month: ___ + ___ + Day: ___ + ___ + 2 + 0 + 2 + 4 = ____________

You’ll probably have a 2-digit number. If it is not 11, 22, or 33, then add the two digits together.

____ + ____ = _______

Keep reducing until you reach a number between 1 and 9, unless it is 11, 22, or 33.

____ + ____ = _______

This is your current year cycle.

What Does Your Personal Year Cycle Mean?

Look for your number on the left side of the table below, and you’ll find the meaning of that cycle to the right of that number.

Personal Year Cycle	Meaning
1	An important time of new beginnings. This year will have influence over the next 9 years. Lots of new energy that can help change the direction of your life. A time for self-focus, to cultivate talents, and to express your individuality.
2	Where the 1 year centers on the individual, this year is about co-operation with others. This is the year to be of assistance to others. This is the year to develop friendships and relationships; be mindful of high levels of sensitivity.
3	This is the year of creative self-expression, which I call "finding your voice." This is the time to develop your skill with words, whether written or spoken. This is a playful year, a year of being a "social butterfly." The creative or performing arts may call to you. You are the performer on the stage of life in this year.
4	This is a serious year, a time of hard work and responsibility. This is the time for structure, order, and discipline, a time to get practical and organized. This the year to be detail-minded, and to stay on top of things.
5	This is a major turning point year, a time of great change being possible. This is the year of freedom and expansion. This is a year of travel, investigating opportunities, and seeking variety in life. A time for needing to be adaptable. The 5 is connected to the five senses, and this is a year where you'll want to experience the finer things in life and see what the world has to offer.
6	In this year, the focus again can be on others, specifically family members. Marriage and close friendships can blossom this year. The 6 is the path of responsibility, so there can be a fine line between being responsible for others and being a slave to the needs of others. It will be important to strike a balance. General harmony is the rule of a 6 year.
7	The focus of this year may be on the study of abstract ideas, science, mysticism and spirituality. I see this year as a year of personal insight and self-awareness, a psychological year. There may be a need to withdraw, as the 7 is a solitary number. This would be a great year to explore meditation of all kinds. Trust your intuition, as it can be very powerful during a 7 year.
8	Two things highlight this year: power and money. This is the year to take action on anything that came to you during the pause of the previous year. The 8 is a number of accomplishments and material success. The seeds you've sown in the earlier years of this 9 -year cycle can reap rewards this year. Be mindful of either relinquishing your power to others or abusing your power. You're being called to demonstrate patience and generosity toward others.
9	This is the year where things get wrapped-up from what was started in the 1 year. Things come to the surface to be examined--and possibly discarded. This is the year of letting go of what is no longer serving or supporting you. This is the year where you look back over the previous 8 years and consider the wisdom gained through what you've experienced. Insights may be heightened in this time of review.
11	This is a year of personal illumination, as well as psychic/intuitive perception. This is a time of inspiration and revelation. The spiritual, psychic, and the metaphysical may play an important role this year. This is a time to consider exploring meditation or prayer. The focus of this year is your inner evolution.
22	In this year, you put your inspirations into practical reality. This is the year of putting your own personal concerns aside and doing your best for the world at large. This may be a time of your greatest career achievements and financial rewards. This is the year to focus on your work and to keep moving forward.
33	In this year, you'll be drawn to spiritual guidance and mystical knowledge. This is the time to really cultivate a daily meditative practice. The 3 is a creative number, so creativity, in all forms, is heightened during this period. This is the time to channel your artistic genius, and go with the flow of your spiritual and creative inspirations; what you create during this period could change the world.

Going Deeper with Your  Personal Year Cycle

Now that you know what your particular cycle is for the year, consider these questions now and throughout the year:

• How did this cycle begin? How did it end?
• What was your intention at the beginning of this cycle?
• What did you let go of at the end of the cycle?
• What did you learn? What wisdom did you gain from your experiences during this cycle?
