What Does “Life Purpose” Mean to You?
I woke up this morning, thinking of a recent client who came to see me for a reading about her life purpose.
I began to think more about life purpose when I sat down to pull an Angel card for today, asking the angels what messages they had.
What card did I pull? Life Purpose.
And then I reflected on something I learned when I studied with Doreen Virtue to become a Certified Angel Card Reader™. During one of my trainings with her, she mentioned that when people talk about wanting to know their life purpose, they can be talking about one of two things:
- Spiritual path, or
- Career
And that’s how I’m going to approach looking at the Life Purpose card.
Life Purpose as Spiritual Path
When Life Purpose talks about your spiritual path, its message is that you’re on the right path toward your life purpose. This card suggests focusing on how you can best serve a purpose—and then having your purpose serve you.
It brings to mind a part of Marianne Williamson’s Morning Prayer (and there are angels praying on the card), where she asks Spirit, “Where would you have me go, what would you have me do, what would you have me say and to who?”
So, in the context of spiritual path, you’re here to be of service.
Life Purpose as Career
If you’re like me, though, and think of your life purpose as the work you’re here to do, then this card can come up when you feel that you’re struggling to find your life purpose, or that you’re worried about being able to make good money doing meaningful work.
If that’s true for you, seeing this card is asking you to release your fears and worries about money and career to Spirit and the Angels. You’re also being encouraged to follow the path of your talents and passions, with the intention of bringing joy to yourself and others.
If you’re not sure about your talents and passions, then consider this: What activities do you find yourself losing all sense of time when you engage in them? This is symbolized on the card by the hourglass and the clock behind the man, as both are ways we tell time.
Also the clock behind the man can represent a “time in the past,” while the hourglass in front of the man could represent “a time that’s coming up.”
And both are illusions, for the past is gone and the future hasn’t arrived yet. All you have is the present moment.
And, in that context, this card says that what you’re doing right now is a part of your life purpose.
Life Purpose: A Process
Whether you consider life purpose to be your spiritual path, your work and career, or a blend of both, the Life Purpose card suggests focusing on one step at a time.
Because, like most other things in life, your life purpose is a process, and each step is progress within that process.
