Sibilla Says: Feeling Like Something’s Missing

I recently finished a card reading challenge over on Instagram. Throughout the month of April, I participated in #sibillaprile, a challenge involving Sibilla cards, which is a form of Italian cartomancy.

I had gifted myself the Every Day Oracle, a deck of Sibilla cards (known as La Vera Sibilla) for my birthday in March, and the challenge seemed like a great way to dive into learning the system, since I was a total newbie.

Why am I telling you this? It’s a set-up for the submission I recently received for my card reading column; this submission comes from Gayle, and she mentions the challenge…

The Situation: Feeling Like Something’s Missing

Hi, James,

I came across one of your posts for the #sibillaprile challenge on Instagram. In it, you responded to a woman who asked if you would read the Sibilla cards about her selling a painting, and I was intrigued.

I wanted to reach out to see if you would read the cards for me. I don’t know exactly how to phrase my question, but lately I feel like I’m missing something…why is that?

What Sibilla Says about Feeling Like Something’s Missing

Hi, Gayle,

With your situation in mind, the cards I pulled from Sibilla, as a response, are Thief (reversed), Fairview, and Friend (reversed).

The first card in the line, Thief reversed, speaks to that sense of something being missing you’re experiencing.

Thief is a card of loss, suggesting something being taken from you. It can also suggest something “intruding” on your life.

In its reversed position, Thief can mean there’s a feeling of being robbed or cheated of something important in life.

As the first card, Thief reversed could suggest a past loss (upside down the thief is looking to the left, which can be the past) that you haven’t been able to get over.

The second card, Fairview, can suggest you being on the lookout, and waiting for something to either show up or return (going back to the idea of a past loss mentioned by Thief reversed).

Fairview can also suggest possible uncertainty about the future, and this aspect of the card may be talking about the feelings you’re having about the situation, as it can suggest anxiety and trepidation.

Fairview can be a card that suggests a need for introspection, and a possible message Sibilla is offering here would be to consider looking within rather than externally (making reference to the telescope on the card).

When Fairview falls into a reading, the card to its right is given consideration as to what could be coming in the near future, so that brings us to the third card, Friend reversed.

The Friend card is a positive card, whether upright or reversed. Friend is a card of support, comfort, and being made to feel at ease.

With Fairview facing it, Friend reversed can suggest help being received in the future, and I’m sensing that the help being offered will somehow help ease the trepidation you may be experiencing in the moment.

Sibilla says Friend reversed can mean that you’re going to be introduced to someone or something that can help you to change the situation positively—and you would welcome the opportunity.

Wrapping Things Up

Summing up, Sibilla says the sense of something being missing you’re feeling may be the result of something you lost in the past and that you’re hoping it will come back.

You might get some form of support that allows you to view this situation in a way you’re not able to at the moment, and that you would welcome this help when it’s offered.

Gayle, thank you so much sharing your question with me. I look forward to you circling back and letting me know your thoughts on what Sibilla had to say.

And, just as I hope it has been helpful to Gayle, I hope you found it informative as well. I would love to hear what you think. You can share your thoughts in the comments section below.

If you have a question or concern and would like to gain some insight using the Sibilla, send me your submission, via e-mail, to james@jameshimm.com, with Sibilla Says in the subject line.
