Card of the Week: 4 of Hearts

In the image of the 4 of Hearts, a couple shares an intimate moment. With that, one of the messages of this card is about forming more intimate connections. ⁣

And while the 4 of Hearts – known as “the marriage bed card” to some – can be about the physical act of intimacy with others, this card is also asking us to be more intimate with ourselves. Going with the genders in the image, the male suggests being more connected to one’s thinking (mind); the female, being more connected to one’s feelings/emotions (heart).

And while the 4 of Hearts can be an obvious nod to relationships and partnerships, it is also about the importance of acknowledging the relationship we have with ourselves (which can affect and impact the relationships we have with others). While most consider the first primary relationship we have as being the one we have with our parents, it is really the relationship we have with ourselves that is the first. People come and go in and out throughout our lives, but we will always be with ourselves. There’s a saying that “no matter where you go, there you are.”

I’ve heard the word “intimacy” being restated as “into me see,” which is a call for us to form a deeper connection with ourselves – which will then enable us to more deeply connect to others, and them to deeply connect with us. And any intimate act requires a sense of trust – which allows us the willingness to be vulnerable with sharing deeply personal aspects of ourselves with others. With that in mind, the 4 of Hearts is also about emotional (Hearts) security (4), the sense of “feeling safe” in the company of others.

So, for this week, when you reflect on all the bonds, connections, friendships, and relationships in your life and the love you have for each of those individuals (as intimacy can be present in various types of relationships) – also remember to love yourself enough to be in love with you too.

Do you love you?
